NEW COMMIT: Hailing from Westfield, Indiana, and qualifier for the Junior National Kayla Barr has announced her intention to continue her academic and swimming career at the University of Minnesota. She will arrive on campus in fall 2025.

She said of her commitment:

“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Minnesota!!! I want to thank my parents, coaches and teammates for supporting me in making this dream a reality. I also want to thank the Minnesota coaches for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime!!! GO GOPHERS”

Barr, who trains year-round with the Carmel Swim Club, posted personal bests in all of her events at the Indianapolis Sectionals in March, with her best finish being fifth in the 200 individual medley. She also competed in four events at Juniors East in December, again posting personal bests.

Her best times include:

  • 200 medley – 2:02.66
  • 400 medley – 4:21.20
  • 100 free – 51.68
  • 200 m freestyle – 1:53.06
  • 100 back – 55.96
  • 200m backstroke – 2:01.18

Barr, a rising senior at Carmel High School, helped her team win a historic 38th consecutive Indiana High School Girls State Championship title in 2024. There, she won the 4×50 medley relay and the 4×100 freestyle relay, and also placed fourth in the 200 individual medley and ninth in the 100 backstroke.

Barr’s best time in the 200 individual medley would have placed fourth on the Gophers’ team last year, while her times in the 400 individual medley and 100 freestyle would have placed her fifth and sixth, respectively.
