Kyle Tucker named American League All-Star

HOUSTON, TEXAS – Major League Baseball today announced the pitchers and reserves for the 2024 MLB All-Star Game, including BY Kyle Tuckerwho is now a three-time All-Star. He joins the starters 2B Jose Altuve And DH Yordan Alvarez to give the Astros three All-Stars in the 2024 All-Star Game.

Including this year, the Astros continue their streak of having at least three All-Stars in every All-Star Game since the 2017 season. Including their three All-Stars this season, the Astros’ 33 All-Star nominations since 2017 are the most of any American League club during that time period.

Tucker is now a three-time All-Star and has been nominated to the Fall Classic each of the past three seasons (2022-24). Tucker was in the conversation for AL MVP earlier this season, but has been out of action since June 7 with a right shin contusion. In 60 games this season, Tucker has a batting average of .266 (57×214) with 11 doubles, 19 home runs, 40 RBI, 10 stolen bases and an OPS of .979.

Altuve is a ninth All-Star and sixth starter (also 2015-18, 2022). Altuve, who already has the most All-Star nominations in team history, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame. Roberto Alomar (9) and Rod Carew (6) as the only AL second baseman to win six fan votes. Altuve is having another outstanding season, posting a .308 batting average (106×344) with 17 doubles, 13 home runs, 38 RBI, 13 stolen bases and an OPS of .828 in 83 games.

Alvarez is now a three-time All-Star and will earn his first starting spot after being named to the AL team as a reserve in 2022 and 2023. With this fan vote, he now becomes Houston’s first designated hitter to receive the honor. The Astros’ designated hitter and left fielder has a batting average of .297 (93×313) with 19 doubles, 18 home runs, 46 RBI and an OPS of .910 in 82 games this season.

Historically, the last time the Astros had multiple fan-selected starters was in 2019 (BY Michael Brantley, 3B Alex Bregman And BY George Springer). They also had three in 2017 (Altuve, Springer, SS Carlos Correa) and two in 1997 (1B Jeff Bagwell, 2B Craig Biggio).
