Grant Park 165 Predictions & Tips

Grant Park 165 Predictions & Tips

Last year, Shane van Gisbergen took the NASCAR world by storm by winning the Chicago road course race in his Cup Series debut. Today, SVG will be on the hunt for a Windy City as he seeks a win at the Grant Park 165 (4:30 p.m. ET, NBC).

Yesterday, SVG earned his third road course win of the Xfinity Series season when he took the checkered flag at Loop 121, making him the first driver at the track to win three times this season.

He will start today’s race in fifth place behind pole sitter and series leader Kyle Larson, Ty Gibbs, Michael McDowell and Tyler Reddick.

After finishing eighth in last week’s Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway, Larson now holds a 20-point lead over Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott at the top of the Cup Series with seven regular-season races remaining.

If Larson can convert his fifth pole of the season into his first pole win since winning the series championship at Phoenix in 2021, he will take a big step toward the regular season title.

Despite starting from the front, he is not the favorite to win in the Windy City. Instead, SVG tops the Grant Park 165 odds at BetOnline, followed by Larson, Gibbs, Reddick and Christopher Bell, who will start seventh.

Grant Park 165 Predictions & Tips

  • Chris Buescher lands in the top 10 (+175 at BetOnline): In the other two road races this season, Buescher finished eighth at the Circuit of the Americas and third in Sonoma. He will start 16th at today’s Grant Park 165, but don’t be surprised if he finishes in the top five for the fourth time in five races.
  • Chase Elliott lands in the top 10 (+100 at Bovada): At last year’s road race in Chicago, Elliott started with 26th but finished third. With his experience on street courses, his chances of doing well again should be good, even if he is 18thIn Sonoma he finished fourth behind Larson, McDowell and Buescher.
  • Tyler Reddick lands in the top five (+110 at Bovada): Reddick finished in the top 10 at both Circuit of the Americas (fifth) and Sonoma (eighth), and I’m confident he’ll score his eighth top-five of the season at Chicago, where he started second last year and drove a good race before his day was ended by a crash with 18 laps to go.
  • Victory for Shane van Gisbergen (+175): There are plenty of experienced road racers in the Grant Park 165 field, but SVG is hard to beat. He may not be ready on ovals yet, but he’ll be in his element today.
