Cardi B is being sued by producers who claim “Enough (Miami)” stole the beat from her song “Reservation Dogs”

Cardi B is facing a new copyright infringement lawsuit alleging that her current single “Enough (Miami)” used the beat of a song that was on Reservation dogs without permission.

Joshua Fraustro and Miguel Aguilar, who record as the production duo Kemika1956, filed the lawsuit in federal court in Texas on Wednesday. Co-defendants include Cardi B and her “Enough (Miami)” collaborators OG Parker and DJ SwanQo, as well as Atlantic Records and Warner Music Group.

In 2021, Kemika1956 released the song “Greasy Frybread” featuring “Rapper Punkin’ Lusty,” the character played by actor Sten Joddi in the acclaimed FX series Reservation dogs. In the three years since the track was uploaded to FX Networks’ YouTube, the video has garnered over 758,000 views, including – the lawsuit suggests – from Cardi B and her “Enough (Miami)” producers, as both songs share a strikingly similar beat.

Soon after the release of “Enough (Miami)” – Cardi B’s first single as a solo artist and without guests since 2021 – in March, the track reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was also named one of the Rolling StoneThe best songs of 2024 so far.

As stated in the lawsuit, first filed by Billboard and received by Rolling Stone – states: “This civil action seeks damages and injunctive relief for multiple claims, including copyright infringement, vicarious copyright infringement, contributory copyright infringement, unfair competition, and breach of law.”

In their lawsuit, Fraustro and Aguilar also seek an injunction regarding the title and the destruction of all infringing copies of the work, which is notable considering that the single is due to be released on 7-inch vinyl in late July.
