According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal have contacted Wolverhampton Wanderers and expressed interest in signing English goalkeeper Dan Bentley this summer.

The Gunners are looking to further strengthen their goalkeeping department after signing David Raya permanently during the week following his impressive loan spell last season, and the 30-year-old has emerged as a target.

Although Arsenal have managed to convince Karl Hein to stay at the club beyond this summer, the 22-year-old Estonian international is expected to be sent on loan to continue his development.

England international Aaron Ramsdale is expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes, having fallen behind Raya in the pecking order. The Gunners also want a good backup goalkeeper.

Bentley’s vast experience and quality make him the ideal player, but Wolves are not interested in selling him unless they receive a suitable offer from interested parties that allows them to reinvest.

The experienced goalkeeper has only made seven appearances in all competitions since joining the Molineux club from Bristol City in January 2023, but is still highly rated by the club having made a strong impression on and off the pitch.

His former manager Dean Holden called Bentley “incredible” in October 2020 after he helped Bristol to their fourth consecutive league title following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest. If Arsenal sign him, they would be getting a solid and experienced player in the Englishman.

The former Southend United goalkeeper actually began his career with the Gunners and spent seven years in their youth teams before leaving the club in 2008.

Since leaving Arsenal, he has played 430 games outside the Premier League, appearing in the Conference South, League One, League Two and Championship for sides such as Southend, Braintree Town, Brentford and Bristol. Since joining Arsenal, he has made five Premier League appearances for Wolves.
