Co-creator of “Vampire Diaries” gives rise to new series

Julie Plec, co-creator of the hit series the Vampire Diarieshas hinted at the potential for further expansion of the popular franchise. This news comes despite the conclusion of the original series and its spin-offs, The original And Inheritances.




Plec co-created the supernatural teen drama based on LJ Smith’s book series with Kevin Williamson. The series originally aired on The CW from September 10, 2009 to March 10, 2017 and comprised 171 episodes over eight seasons. At the premiere of their new Max series The girls on the busstarring Melissa Benoist, Plec spoke to Screen Rant about her ongoing ideas for the Vampire Diaries universe. Although she didn’t give any specific details, she mentioned the TVD novels as a possible source of inspiration.

The pilot episode of The Vampire Diaries had the largest audience of any series premiere on The CW since the network was founded in 2006. The series is set in the fictional small town of Mystic Falls, Virginia, and revolves around the love triangle between protagonist Elena Gilbert, played by Nina Dobrev, and vampire brothers Stefan Salvatore, played by Paul Wesley, and Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore. The series has been nominated for numerous awards, including several Teen Choice Awards, People’s Choice Awards and Saturn Awards.
