Before Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood became a real couple, they saved the world together as a dynamic superhero duo in the CW show Supergirl.

However, when they first met, both stars were in relationships with other people. In particular, Benoist was married to the former Joy Co-star Blake Jenner, whom she divorced in 2017.

That same year, Benoist and Wood were photographed cozying up to each other on vacation in Cancun, Mexico, according to E! News. The two were also spotted together in Los Angeles and eventually appeared on each other’s social media.

“Let’s never stop exploring ❤️,” Wood captioned a photo of Benoist on Instagram on Valentine’s Day 2018.

The couple got engaged in February 2019 and married six months later. They had their first child in September 2020.

Benoist and Wood first met on the set of Supergirl, where Benoist played the leading role.

They were both in other relationships at the time – Benoist was married to Jenner, and Wood was with the former Containment Co-star Hanna Mangan-Lawrence. After two years of marriage, Jenner and Benoist filed for divorce in 2016. Their divorce became final in 2017, while Wood and Lawrence reportedly separated in January 2017.

Wood and Benoist proved they’ve reached a major milestone on their bucket list: getting to know each other’s families. Wood posted a snapshot of the smiling couple with his mother on Instagram.

Months later, he posted another photo of the couple with his mother and their dogs.

July 29, 2017: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood are spotted together at LAX

The co-stars were photographed at LAX airport after returning from the set of Supergirl in Vancouver, Just Jared reported. They walked through the airport laughing and with relaxed expressions on their faces.

December 9, 2017: Chris Wood calls Melissa Benoist “a light” in a social media post

Wood praised Benoist in an Instagram post that also praised his mental health campaign IDONTMIND.

“This brilliant woman is a light. Her heart has remained open and full despite the many difficulties she has faced,” he wrote under a wintry photo of Benoist and a quote card. “(Her) generous spirit fills the world with more love. I continue to be in awe of her.”

The actor founded IDONTMIND in 2017 to help others talk more openly about mental health. The goal is to “realize that ‘perfection’ is not attainable and instead invest that energy into healing. Talk about how you’re feeling – seek help and stay open,” he wrote.

February 18, 2018: Melissa Benoist praises Chris Wood on Instagram

Benoist spoke about her relationship with Wood in an Instagram post that shared a snap of him kissing her on the cheek by the riverbank. “Whew, boy, that’s big love,” she wrote. “That love completely accepts me and encourages me to unapologetically be myself and unapologetically love myself – whoever that self is day in and day out.”

She added: “This love challenges me to be a better person and to realize that you should always be respectful, even when things aren’t easy or pretty. This love is the one I’ve always been looking for and I should never have settled for less.”

February 10, 2019: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood announce their engagement

The Whiplash The actress announced her engagement to Wood on Instagram, posting a picture of her hand with a huge ring and writing, “Yes, yes, yes it will always be yes ♥️.”

The couple took a break from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and enjoyed a camping trip together in Yosemite National Park. She posted pictures of Wood walking through a waterfall and their camping setup on Instagram and wrote, “The unplugged experience was amazing.”

September 1, 2019: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood get married

Just six months after their engagement, Wood and Benoist tied the knot on Labor Day weekend 2019 in Ojai, California.

Wood and Benoist reached a major milestone just weeks after their wedding – their first red carpet appearance as a newlywed couple. They made their debut as a married couple at the 2019 Saturn Awards in Hollywood, where Supergirl won the award for Best Superhero Television Series.

November 15, 2019: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood share first wedding photos on Instagram

Benoist waited several months before posting photos from her wedding day with Wood.

“I will always remember looking at you every five minutes that day and us both thinking, ‘How in the world did we get so lucky?’ I still don’t understand how it works, but you prove to me every day that I am one of the luckiest damn people alive,” she wrote under a sweet snapshot of the two hugging in a hallway.

March 4, 2020: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood announce their pregnancy

In joint Instagram posts featuring their dogs and in which Wood pretended to be pregnant, the couple announced that they are expecting their first child together.

“Our family is about to have a baby that is no longer a dog!!! ??? @christophrwood has always been an old dad but now he’s going to be a real one!” Benoist wrote.

March 20, 2020: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood announce they are having a boy

Wood and Benoist announced the gender of their baby in March 2020.

“My little boy is going to rock the 990s just like his daddy and that makes the world a little less sad today,” Wood wrote under a photo of sneakers in adult and kid sizes.

September 25, 2020: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood welcome a son

Benoist and Wood welcomed their first child together, son Huxley Robert, in September 2020. She shared the news on Instagram, writing that she gave birth “a few weeks ago.”

“Our son was born his name is Huxley he is amazing,” Wood wrote on Instagram, joking: “And no it’s probably none of your business xo be right back see you in 18 years.”

March 22, 2021: Chris Wood talks about spending time with Melissa Benoist

The new parents are both relatively inactive on social media, and Wood took the time to explain why in a Twitter post (his account has since been deleted). Citing his mental health, he said he doesn’t like the way he feels on social media.

What does the actor enjoy? His family.

“I delete the apps from my phone and spend time with my wife and son instead,” he said. “And that makes me feel great.”

April 14, 2021: Melissa Benoist celebrates Chris Woods’ birthday

“Happy birthday, sweetheart. You probably won’t see this, but I wanted to shout from the rooftops how amazing you are and how glad I am that you were born,” she wrote.

November 9, 2021: Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood are back on screen for the final episode of Supergirl

After six seasons Supergirl ended in 2021. The series finale featured a cameo by Wood, who played Mon-El, along with returning former cast mates Mehcad Brooks and Jeremy Jordan.

Before the episode aired, Benoist shared a message with his fans on Instagram: “Happy finale tonight everyone, from the Danvers sisters’ couch to yours.”

November 4, 2022: Melissa Benoist supports Chris Wood at the premiere of his Broadway debut

“So incredibly proud of you @chistophrwood ❤️,” Benoist wrote on Instagram under a photo with Wood on the red carpet at the premiere of the Broadway musical. Almost famous.

In his Broadway debut, Wood played Russell Hammond, the lead guitarist of Stillwater, the fictional band featured in the stage adaptation of Cameron Crowe’s semi-autobiographical 2000 film.

Benoist and Wood are officially a Broadway power couple – Benoist had made her own Broadway debut four years earlier as a replacement in Beautiful: The Carole King Musicalin the role of the title-giving singer-songwriter.

March 2023: Melissa Benoist joins Chris Wood in the cast of Netflix’ He-Man Adjustment

Netflix announced that Benoist has been recruited to join Netflix’s voice cast alongside her husband Masters of the Universe: Revolutionthe follow-up measures He-Man Adjustment of the 2021 epiphany.

January 25, 2024: Masters of the Universe: Revolution Debuts with Chris Wood and Melissa Benoist in the leading roles

Wood, Prince Adam / He-Man in epiphany a few years earlier, continued to speak the main character for revolutionwhich premiered on Netflix on January 25, 2024.

For Masters of the Universe: RevolutionWood’s wife voiced the heroine Teela, as Benoist replaced Sarah Michelle Gellar, who did so in Epiphany.

“GUYS. I CAN’T WAIT FOR YOU TO SEE THIS,” Wood wrote on Instagram when announcing the animated series. “It has exceeded my wildest dreams and expectations and I think you’re all going to love it. It’s so much fun to bring He-Man (and sweet little Adam) back to life and go on this wild ride. … Also, shout out to my favorite actress and wife @melissabenoist who is joining us as Teela and KICKING HUGE MOTU ASS.”

In the 2024 Netflix series, Wood and Benoist serve as voice actors alongside Mark Hamill, who voiced Skeletor, and William Shatner, who voiced Keldor.
