The MAVERICK director’s F1 film starring Brad Pitt gets an action-packed first trailer

The lights are out and here we go: Formula 1 and Apple Original Films have released the first trailer and poster for formula 1 (via ActioNewz.com), the new racing film with the rather unimaginative title and Brad Pitt in the lead role.

It was also confirmed that the project will be led by Top Shooter: Maverick Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the Warner Bros. film will be released in theaters and IMAX screens internationally on June 25, 2025, and in North America on June 27, 2025.

Original plans called for formula 1 debut on Apple TV+, but plans have changed, presumably because it was recently reported that the budget has risen to over $300 million since filming began last year.

The film was made in collaboration with Formula 1 (which may explain the brand title) and is described as “A milestone for sport and cinema, filmed in real time during Grands Prix around the world and involving the F1 community, including all ten teams, the drivers, the FIA and race organizers.”

“Set in the exciting and cinematic world of Formula 1, the new feature film immerses audiences in the spectacle of the sport’s most popular annual series. It celebrates the skill and heroism of the drivers while showcasing the incredible challenge of competing in Formula 1.”

What we can expect from the story (while this trailer offers an exciting glimpse into the kind of groundbreaking visuals we can look forward to, it offers little insight into that side of things), a quick summary for formula 1 also participated online:

“The film stars Brad Pitt as a former driver returning to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his rookie teammate in APXGP, a fictional team that competes against the sport’s drivers and teams. Production on the film, which began in 2023, will continue at this year’s British Grand Prix and several other races, and will conclude at the season-ending event in Abu Dhabi in December.”

While Kosinski behind the camera suggests that we are going on an exciting ride in the style of his TopGun Continuation, Formula 1 fans were quick to criticize formula 1The premise of “The 40 Years of Racing” relies on portraying the 60-year-old Pitt as a credible racing driver (in a sport where most drivers are considered past their “prime” by the time they reach their late 30s or early 40s).

Similar to Netflix Drive to survive Documentary series, it also looks like formula 1 will take some liberties with reality to tell a more exciting story, but there’s no denying that the visual effects – which used cutting-edge technology to integrate cameras into the cars – are incredible.

Regardless, the film’s cast includes Oscar nominee Kerry Condon, Oscar winner Javier Bardem, Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.
