After six years in business, the owners of the Queen City Cinema Club in downtown Bangor announced Sunday that they would close the venue and bar over the summer.
Owners Josh and Tiffany Moulton posted on Facebook on Sunday that they were closing their business, which operated equally as a bar, restaurant, private movie theater and event venue, for two main reasons.
Firstly, that the couple was no longer willing to sacrifice their physical and mental health for the business, and secondly, that they never reached the numbers they needed to keep the business profitable.
“We spent nearly six years trying to figure out why, despite serving some of the best food, cocktails, entertainment, atmosphere and service in town, we were almost always empty,” Josh Moulton wrote on Facebook.”
Although the owners have not yet announced a date for the contract to be signed, they expect to be able to announce further details in the coming weeks.
Queen City Cinema Club opened in 2018 at 128B Main St. in downtown Bangor as a bar and small restaurant with two small, private cinema rooms for film screenings, streaming events and video game tournaments. It also offered board games and video games to patrons. In 2020, it expanded to include an arcade and live music, as well as a full restaurant and bar menu. Since then, it has hosted many local and regional bands, drag shows, comedy shows, trivia nights, karaoke and other entertainment.
