Michigan is working to change the minds of elite defenders

Michigan is working to change the minds of elite defenders

There are reports that Michigan’s recruiting momentum will pick up again in June, and head coach Sherrone Moore’s Twitter activity seems to indicate that this is the case.

Although a number of top targets have a decision to make in the next few days, including four-star TE Andrew Olesh, there is another name Michigan fans should keep an eye on – Shamari Earls. The four-star cornerback is considered a top-ten prospect according to 247 Sports and has currently committed to South Carolina. Earls committed to the Gamecocks in April but has continued to take visits with other players and a transfer seems likely in the near future. According to multiple reports, Georgia and Michigan are the two leading candidates for the top cornerback to transfer.

The Michigan Wolverines just won the national championship last season, so they’re sure to be a strong recruit for Earls. Current UM cornerback Will Johnson is widely considered the best cornerback in all of college football and is expected to be selected as early as the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Johnson’s success at the Michigan Wolverines not only gives Earls a clear path to the NFL, but also means the Wolverines will need an elite cornerback to fill Johnson’s shoes in 2025 — offering a potential opportunity for immediate playing time.

With a decision expected in the near future, Michigan appears to be doing everything possible to bring Earls to Ann Arbor.

As for the rest of Michigan’s class of 2025, the Wolverines are currently ranked No. 22 nationally and No. 7 in the Big Ten Conference. The class currently consists of 13 juniors, including four guys ranked in the top 25 nationally at their position (Kainoa Winston, Nathaniel Marshall, Jaylen Williams and Avery Gach). Here’s a quick look at all 13 juniors:
