Former Michigan State star extends contract with Charlotte Hornets

Miles Bridges just signed a three-year contract extension with the Charlotte Hornets. Bridges was an unrestricted free agent and received a contract extension this Saturday.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Bridges has agreed to a three-year, $75 million contract extension.

According to Wojnarowski, Bridges’ contract does not include a player option. “No options on contract. Bridges’ agent Rich Paul of @KlutchSports reached a deal with Hornets management today to bring Bridges back with a core of LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller.

In his seven seasons with the Hornets, Bridges averaged 14.8 points per game, six rebounds and two and a half assists per game. Bridges also won the Rising Stars Challenge MVP award in the 2019-2020 season.

Bridges has had off-court troubles, having to sit out the entire 2022-23 season following his arrest in June 2022. In November 2022, Bridges pleaded no contest to a domestic violence charge after being accused of assaulting his then-girlfriend in front of their two children and initially faced three felony charges, ESPN writer Baxter Holmes reported.

Holmes also mentioned that Bridges will have to perform 100 hours of community service, attend a domestic violence counseling center for 52 weeks, attend a parenting class for 52 weeks, pay a $500 domestic violence fine and a $300 restitution fine. Bridges will also receive a 10-year protective order and be ordered not to contact the woman or come within 300 feet of her.

Following the NBA’s investigation into the incident, Bridges was suspended for 30 games without pay in April 2023, although it was ruled that 20 of those games were considered time served since he missed the 2022-23 season.

Last season, Bridges played great for the Hornets, averaging a career-high 21 points per game. He also averaged 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game while averaging 37.4 minutes of action.
