Cards, Cubs and Sox eliminated on Saturday

WASHINGTON (AP) — Top prospect James Wood hit his first major league home run — a three-run shot — and added a two-run double, giving him a career-high five RBIs as the Washington Nationals beat the St. Louis Cardinals 14-6. Keibert Ruiz hit 3 for 5 with two doubles and a three-run home run against Cardinals starter Lance Lynn. Lynn allowed 11 runs — 10 earned — on nine hits in 2 2/3 innings. MacKenzie Gore allowed five runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Jacob Barnes earned the win with two scoreless innings.

CHICAGO (AP) — Tyler Anderson threw eight dominant innings and Jo Adell hit a home run to help the Los Angeles Angels end a five-game losing streak with a 7-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. Anderson (8-8) allowed a leadoff single, then retired the next 13 Chicago batters before allowing another hit to secure his third win in his last five starts. The left-hander matched a career-high 10 strikeouts and allowed just three hits with no walks. Logan O’Hoppe added two hits and two RBIs for Los Angeles, where all nine starters had at least one hit after the club had managed just one run in the previous three losses. Ben Joyce pitched a clean ninth inning to finish the shutout.

MIAMI (AP) — Dane Myers hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning and finished with three hits and three RBIs as the Miami Marlins beat the Chicago White Sox 4-3 on Saturday in a matchup of the teams with the worst records in the major leagues. Myers’ 420-footer off White Sox relief pitcher Michael Soroka (0-9), his second home run of the season, erased a 3-2 deficit and scored Jake Burger, who entered the game for the first time on a walk. Xavier Edwards hit two singles for the Marlins, who ended a five-game losing streak and improved to 31-58, second to last in MLB. The White Sox fell to 26-65, the worst record in the major leagues.
