- Fans were unanimous in their shock over new series on the streaming platform
Netflix is ”hooked” on a new documentary series, but also warned viewers that watching it would be extremely “depressing.”
On X (formerly Twitter), several viewers were quick to voice their verdict after the show appeared on the streaming service.
One user said: “I am literally addicted to the show!”
Others, however, were more downbeat, writing: “This documentary is one of the most depressing things I have ever seen.”
A third said he turned on the show as “background noise” but was (now) addicted to it.

They were referring to “AMERICA’S SWEETHEARTS: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders,” which follows the group from auditions to training camp to the NFL season as they chase their dreams and a coveted spot on the team.
Other viewers were quick to express their horror at how low the salaries of some cheerleaders were.
Previously, Kat, a former cheerleader on the team, explained in a clip that she makes about as much money as a full-time employee at Chick-fil-A.
According to Cosmopolitan, this rate equates to around £30,000 ($38,266) per year.
While that may not be a small salary, it is tiny compared to that of an NFL player – the average salary is around £2.2 million ($2.8 million), while the minimum salary is £556,000 ($705,000).
In addition, Charlotte Jones, owner and chief brand officer of the Dallas Cowboys, seems to be well aware of this, but remains calm.
The angry reactions from fans showed how surprised they were when they learned about the salary for the role. They continued:
“I hope the women get paid fairly in the end. And I hope they get paid for this documentary.”
“There is NO good reason why the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders shouldn’t be paid a full-time salary that allows them to live a living. Frankly, it shocks me that some of these women work full-time jobs on top of all that.”
“Ladies, you are being exploited for profit and being part of the team is being sold to you as a privilege.”
“The multimillionaire daughter of a billionaire with an NFL franchise explains that the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders don’t get paid well but don’t do it for the money and is crazy.”
“Charlotte Jones smiles as she explains her organization’s labor exploitation of young women.”
