He is a television veteran known for his work as a voice artist on documentaries, cartoons, BBC Radio 4 commercials and hit TV shows.

But with Channel 5 airing a new thriller on Sunday night, the hoarse voice of the show’s star may sound very familiar.

It is usually known for whispering carrot purée and parsnip chips in your ear and finishing with a spicy lamb jus served over plates of delicate foods.

And now he is expanding his field of voiceovers, giving his hoarse voice a rough expression.

Yes, it’s the actor Sean Pertwee!

Nowadays, Sean is best known as the narrator of MasterChef: The Professionals, after replacing India Fisher in the fourth season.

But his family has been in the industry for a long time: his sister is the actress Dariel Pertwee, his grandfather is the actor and screenwriter Roland Pertwee and his father is the legendary Jon Pertwee – best known for his portrayal of the third incarnation of Doctor Who in the 1970s.

He is also married to make-up artist Jacqui Hamilton-Smith.

Sean, known for his role as Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s butler in Gotham, voices a late-night radio talk show host named Lawrence, who is listened to by the main character and taxi driver Tony, played by Robert Glenister.

Lawrence is one of Tony’s last lifelines when things take a turn for the worse after he loses his job as a teacher, his self-confidence, and his marriage.

The show has been described as “a claustrophobic story about the power and influence of those with the loudest voices over the most vulnerable.”

And it follows Tony as he summons the courage to call Lawrence live and finally feels heard after many years.

But Tony soon begins to interpret Lawrence’s “worldview” in dangerous ways.

The relationship develops into an unhealthy obsession until he realizes that the real Lawrence is not the man he claims to be on television.

In addition to his commercials on MasterChef and BBC Radio 4, Sean also starred in the film Doomsday (2008) and the film Devil’s Playground (2010).

“The Night Caller” starts on Sunday 7 July at 9pm on Channel 5.

Viewers can then watch the show air for the next four consecutive nights until Wednesday, July 10.
