Michigan State PG Tre Holloman praises some of the new Spartan teammates

It is not always easy to adapt to a new team line-up when you have been used to the players around you for some time.

Michigan State University basketball point guard Tre Holloman will be without two familiar faces in the backcourt – Tyson Walker and AJ Hoggard – heading into his third season. However, Holloman is optimistic about the 2024-25 season and is excited about the current roster around him.

Perhaps the most important addition to the program in the offseason was transfer wing Frankie Fidler, a player Holloman was very impressed with.

“Frankie is tough,” Holloman said on opening night of the 2024 Moneyball Pro-Am. “Frankie is tough. Frankie can shoot, he can post, he can dribble, he’s got good size, so I think Frankie is going to be good for us — great for us, actually.”

Holloman further praised Fidler’s shooting skills.

“I didn’t really get to watch him shoot, but when I saw him practice, I thought, ‘Oh man, this guy has motor and he can shoot well,'” Holloman said.

The Spartans also brought in two highly touted recruits: Spartan legacy Jase Richardson and Kur Teng.

“He (Richardson) has heart, just like his dad,” Holloman said. “He has heart, he’s a winner and he’s a fighter, so we’re going to need that this year.”

Holloman praised Teng for his defense, a trait Holloman can understand.

“He was great too,” the veteran point guard said. “Kur can shoot, he can defend, so I think that’s going to be the most underrated aspect of his game.”

Holloman also noted Teng’s knowledge of the game.

“The IQ is high,” he said. “He’s just fast, man. He’s fast, and I think he really knows basketball.”

Holloman played in all 35 games for the Spartans last season, starting twice, and averaged 5.7 points per game, 1.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists.

The third-year Spartan guard will look to lead these newcomers as one of the few returning veterans, and luckily for Holloman and his team, he likes what he’s seen so far.
