Syracuse Crunch sign defensemen Chris Harpur and Scott Walford to AHL contracts

SYRACUSE, NY – The Syracuse Crunch have signed defenders Chris Harpur And Scott Walford to one-year contracts in the AHL, General Manager Stacy Roest announced today.

Harpur, 27, appeared in 17 games with the Crunch last season, recording four assists. He also appeared in 28 games with the ECHL’s Orlando Solar Bears, recording three goals and six assists. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound defenseman has played in 110 career ECHL games since 2021, all with the Solar Bears, recording five goals and 17 assists.

Prior to his professional career, Harpur played 161 games for Niagara University from 2017 to 2022, scoring 10 goals and 48 assists.

Walford, 25, appeared in five games with the Crunch last season and made his AHL debut on March 22. He also played in 20 games as an alternate captain with McGill University last season. His 24 points (4 goals, 20 assists) were the best among defensemen. The 6’1″, 200-pound defenseman played in 59 career games with McGill and recorded 55 points (9 goals, 46 assists) from 2021-2024.

Prior to his college career, Walford appeared in 290 WHL games with the Saskatoon Blades and Victoria Royals from 2014 to 2020, scoring 30 goals and 144 assists.

Walford was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the third round of the 2017 NHL Draft, 68th overall.
