John Mulaney voices former “SNL” author’s new audiobook (exclusive)

John Mulaney lends his voice to a new humor project.

The 41-year-old Emmy-winning comedian, actor and author will produce the audiobook for the author and former Saturday Night Live Short story collection by writer Simon Rich Flowering periodPEOPLE can exclusively announce. The audiobook will be published this July by Hachette Audio, the hardcover edition by Little, Brown and Company.

Glory Days is a collection of stories that, according to the book’s synopsis, chronicle the “plight of ageing millennials.” The stories bring together a variety of perspectives, such as that of a 40-year-old Super Mario who must “take stock” of his life, and the trials of a contestant’s cup, recalling how it was won in 1993 by a “jubilant asthmatic” Simon Rich.

“I have been a huge fan of John Mulaney since the day we met on SNL in 2008,” Rich says in a statement provided to PEOPLE. “He is the funniest person on the planet. I think he should read the audio version of every book, even the very religious ones.”

Rich was the youngest author ever for Saturday Night Live when he joined the show in 2008 at age 24. He has also published several short story collections, including 2021’s New teethand two novels. Rich’s comedy series, man searches for womanPremiered on FXX in 2015.

Flowering period will be Mulaney’s first audiobook narration. In May, the comedian returned for a six-day live comedy event called John Mulaney presents: Everybody’s in LA The Big mouth The actor has also released three more Netflix comedy specials: John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid (2015), John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous at Radio City (2018) and John Mulaney: Baby J (2023). His children’s comedy special, John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunchpremiered on the platform in 2019.

“Glory Days” will be released on July 23rd and can be pre-ordered now wherever books are sold.
