Kings sign DeMar DeRozan in a 3-year, $74 million sign-and-trade deal

Kings sign DeMar DeRozan in a 3-year, million sign-and-trade deal

DeMar DeRozan’s time with the Chicago Bulls is over.

According to an ESPN report Saturday, the Kings are signing the 34-year-old free agent guard to a three-year, $74 million sign-and-trade deal.

Sacramento is trading forward Harrison Barnes and a 2031 unprotected pick with the San Antonio Spurs, while guard Chris Duarte, two second-round draft picks and cash are going to the Bulls, sources told the site.

The DeRozan trade gives the Kings their own Big 3 in the Western Conference, with the veteran teaming up with All-Star guard De’Aaron Fox and All-Star center Domantas Sabonis.

DeRozan – a six-time All-Star who turns 35 next month and is entering his 16th NBA season – has had three strong years in Chicago.

He made the All-Star team in his first two seasons with the Bulls and averaged 24 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists last season, while finishing second to Stephon Curry in voting for the 2024 NBA Clutch Player of the Year Award.

This news comes after DeRozan traveled to Sacramento on Saturday to meet with team officials and coach Mike Brown, who signed a contract extension with the Kings in the offseason after leading the Kings to two consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 2006.

The Kings will be the fourth team for DeRozan, who was previously a member of the Raptors, Spurs and Bulls.

The three-time All-NBA player can look back on an impressive career, averaging 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists in his 1,110 NBA games.

A three-time All-NBA player, DeRozan was selected ninth overall in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Toronto Raptors and played for the Raptors, Spurs and Bulls over the course of his 15 NBA seasons.

In the 1,110 NBA games of his career, he averaged 21.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

The Spurs, in turn, bring another experienced player to the team in the form of 32-year-old Barnes, along with Chris Paul, who signed with the team as a free agent to play alongside Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama.

San Antonio, which is taking Barnes under its remaining salary cap space to make the deal a success, is also getting a durable and solid offensive player.

He has played 82 games in each of the last two seasons, and last season the forward averaged 12.2 points and three rebounds while shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3-point land.

Barnes, who was part of the Golden State Warriors’ 2015 NBA title team and was the team’s No. 7 pick in 2012, played 5½ seasons for the Kings after coming in a trade from the Dallas Mavericks.

The Kings are also the fourth team for Barnes, who has career averages of 14.9 and 4.9 rebounds

With the 27-year-old Duarte, the Bulls are getting a younger guard who averaged 3.9 points in 59 games for the Kings last season. The Kings traded two second-round picks from the Indiana Pacers last summer to sign him.
