Love Island 2024 confirms first couples on launch night

Love Island has introduced the first couples of the 2024 series and the opening show had many surprises in store.

ITV’s reality show returned tonight (June 3) for its 11th series, with 12 new singles hoping for their chance at love in the villa.

It didn’t take long before moderator Maya Jama told the group about her first challenge: The islanders were divided into girls and boys and then had to classify, based on first impressions, who was most likely to be in a relationship.

After the rankings, the presenter put a damper on things when she announced that the first couples would be determined by their placings from the exercise, a change from previous years.

The initial couplings remained as follows:

Mimii and Munveer

Nicole and Sean

Jess and Ronnie

Patsy and Ayo

Samantha and Sam

Harriett and Ciaran

Later that evening, Maya returned to gather the islanders around the fire pit to gauge their feelings about the pairings, but the mood changed when she warned to “expect the unexpected.”

Although we expected many surprises, no one could have predicted that the series’ first bombshell would be a former star of The Only Way is Essex, and that Joey Essex would shock viewers with his appearance.
