Dwayne Johnson announces new release date and first look at live-action film “Vaiana”

Dwayne Johnson is in top form sharing updates on Disney’s highly anticipated upcoming live-action film. Vaiana – The wonderful world of love.
The 52-year-old Hollywood actor recently confirmed on Instagram that he is reprising his role as demigod Maui, a character he voiced in the 2016 animated series “The Last Man.” Vaiana – The wonderful world of love and its yet-to-be-released sequel in 2024.
Johnson also announced that production is set to begin in August of this year and announced a new release date for the film: June 27, 2025.
Why is this story important?
Johnson caused a stir in April 2023 when he confirmed a live-action remake of the 2016 Disney hit Vaiana – The wonderful world of loveand announced his return as Maui, Moana’s beloved demigod sidekick.
Johnson later delighted fans on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in November 2023, in which he reprises Maui’s role and even sings his famous song from the film, You’re welcome.
The film’s premiere was originally scheduled for July 10, 2026 and has now been brought forward by a full year.
Johnson revealed the cast for the live-action film “Moana”
In his Instagram post, Johnson also revealed the cast of the upcoming live-action film.
He shared portrait photos of the actors alongside their animated counterparts and explained: “Exciting and inspiring casting news as we begin to develop our live-action MOANA Family.”
Newcomer Catherine Laga’aia will portray the titular Polynesian heroine, with John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
“And your devoted demigod person ~ MAUI (sic),” Johnson wrote.
Johnson feels honored to convey Polynesian culture in “Moana”
Johnson expressed his pride and honor in bringing Polynesian culture to a global audience through the film.
He wrote: “It is our great honor to share the legends, songs, dances and traditions of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families around the world.”
The live action Vaiana – The wonderful world of love The film is directed by Thomas Kail and the music was composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
What will be the plot of “Moana”?
Although no plot details have been announced, the upcoming live-action remake is expected to stick closely to the popular storyline of the 2016 animated film.
According to a June 2024 press release, “Moana” will retell the story of a young woman determined to create her own destiny.
In the meantime, fans can rewatch the original 2016 animated film, which is available to stream on Disney+.
