The situation in northern Israel after 9 months of war

Nine months have passed since the outbreak of war. The war of attrition in the north, which has so far cost the lives of 18 soldiers and 10 civilians, continues. The inhabitants of the north live in uncertainty and under a big question mark: will the government reach a political agreement with Hezbollah or will it alternatively start a full-scale war in Lebanon?

According to recent data, more than 1,030 hits on civilian and public buildings and infrastructure have been reported as a result of rockets, drones and missiles fired from Lebanon.

The five most affected communities with the highest number of damaged houses, buildings and public infrastructure are Kiryat Shmona with 147 reported incidents, Kibbutz Manara with 130 damaged buildings, Metula with 121 affected houses, Shlomi with 115 damaged houses and Arab al-Aramshe with 88 damaged houses.

For safety reasons, only 800 affected sites have been surveyed so far. According to the survey, Kibbutz Manara appears to have suffered the most severe and serious damage. Of the 130 buildings affected, 65 of the kibbutz’s houses suffered moderate to severe damage.

Nine months of attacks

According to the Alma Research Institute, 2,295 attacks have been carried out on Israel since Hezbollah began fighting against Israel on the northern border between October 8 and July 1.

A total of 94.3% of attacks on Israel are carried out within a radius of 0–5 km from the border line on outposts and settlements adjacent to the fence, such as Metula, Shtula or Shlomi.

Another 3.1% of attacks occurred within 5 to 10 km of the border line. In addition, 1.9% of attacks occurred within 10 to 20 km and 0.65% of attacks occurred within 20 to 30 km of the border line.

Finally, 0.05% of the attacks reached a distance of more than 30 km from the border.

“The military area attacked with the highest intensity is the area of Mount Dov and its outposts – where Hezbollah carries out daily attacks,” Alma explained.

Some 80,000 evacuees who were driven from their homes on October 7 are scattered across the country and, as things stand, will not be able to return to their homes until the start of the next school year.

However, since the beginning of the current conflict, Israeli forces have eliminated over 500 Hezbollah terrorists, including high-ranking commanders, which could lead to a gradual weakening of the terrorist organization.
