Creators talk about possible return of the original cast of Pretty Little Liar in a future spinoff

The makers of Pretty Little Liars: Summer School have discussed the possibility of more original characters returning. After the end of the long-running teen mystery drama pretty Little Liars In 2017, the franchise continued with the short-lived 2019 spinoff The PerfectionistsIn 2022, the show was relaunched again with Pretty Little Liars: Original Sina slasher series that was renewed for a second season with a new subtitle, Summer School. Whether it Pretty Little Liars: SummerSchool Season 2 or simply a 3rd season with a new subtitle, another season seems quite possible.

Deadline recently spoke with Pretty Little Liars: Original sin Creators Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring in the wake of the Summer School Finale. While discussing the future of the show, they shared their thoughts on more original characters that would appear after Annabeth Gish reprises her role as Dr. Sullivan in six episodes of Summer School. Aguierre-Sacasa said: it could happen as long as it felt “organic and correct” for the story, while Calhoon Bring suggested that “we definitely talked about making these visits.” Read their full quotes below:

Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa:
I think in Season 1 we made a conscious decision to reference a few things like Rosewood and the Radley Asylum and things like that. But we really focused on building this version in this town of Millwood. I think Dr. Sullivan was integrated so seamlessly in Season 2. If there is a Season 3 – and we really hope there is – I think it would just have to feel totally organic and right. We would love it, but what would be behind it would be the story and making it really make sense.
Lindsay Calhoon Bring:
That’s exactly right. By the way, we’re fans. Our writers are fans. Our actors are superfans who are always asking when we’re going to bring in Troian (Bellisario) and when we’re going to bring in Lucy (Hale). Is Alison going to make an appearance? With Season 2, we didn’t think, “Oh, we need to make a connection to the original universe.” We thought, “These girls need therapy. Oh my God. There’s a connection there that’s organic.” But we love the show. We love the world. We love Rosewood, and if there’s a Season 3, we’ve definitely talked about doing those visits.

Lindsay Calhoon Bring’s suggestion of finding an organic way to integrate the character of the returning therapist into the group underscores the fact that Every recurring character would of course have to fit into the third seasonif the series is renewed. Since there is no information about how the story might continue in a future season, it is difficult to determine which original pretty Little Liars Actors would be best suited to reprise their roles. However, all of the stars who played the longest-running main characters in the series are still active in the industry.

Pretty Little Liars: Summer School Cast and Character Guide

In the second season of Max’s Pretty Little Liars, subtitled “Summer School,” many characters return from the previous season, “Original Sin.”

Of the three stars specifically mentioned by Calhoon Bring, Lucy Hale seems to be the one most likely to return in the project. Hale has starred in several prominent projects in the horror genre since the end pretty Little Liarsespecially the Blumhouse excursions truth or Dare And Fantasy Islandso the new horror-inflected season could be interesting for the star. Although they are both still active, Troian Bellisario has taken on more pure dramas than genre titles, and Sasha Pieterse (who played Alison) has been a regular on the cast since 2019, when she played Alison in The Perfectionists.

The season after Pretty Little Liars: Summer School could also include almost any of the show’s other main characters. These include Ian Harding (Ezra), Ashley Benson (Hanna), and Shay Mitchell (Emily). The only major long-standing main cast member who may not be able to return is Laura Leighton, who played Hanna’s mother Ashley Marin and is currently set to both star and executive produce a reboot of her 1990s primetime drama. The dramatic slasher/horror mystery franchise returns with Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, in development for HBO Max. Original Sin follows the original series and follows a group of teenage girls terrorized by a mysterious killer known as “A.” The girls are blamed for a terrible tragedy committed by their mothers over twenty years ago. They must discover the truth about the incident to put an end to the terror in Millwood, Pennsylvania – and to survive. Season 2 of the series was released in May 2024 and is subtitled Summer School.
