Chris Avila defeats Anthony Pettis (Highlights)

Anthony Pettis will face Chris Avila in a six-round boxing match tonight in Anaheim, California.

Pettis (25-14 MMA, 1-0 boxing), a former UFC lightweight champion, last entered the ring in April 2023, where he earned a majority decision victory over boxing legend Roy Jones Jr.

“I try to stay busy with boxing,” Anthony Pettis recently told MMA Fighting: “I have this boxing match on July 6th and then I have another pretty big name that is going to give me a chance in boxing as long as I screw up Avila on July 6th. My next fight after this one is against a boxer who is currently competing in boxing and is ranked.”

Chris Avila has now won five boxing matches in a row before his clash with “Showtime” today. The 31-year-old has won two points victories in a row in his last fights against Jake Bostwick and Jeremy Stephens.

Round one of Pettis vs. Avila begins and Showtime lands a solid right counter first. He sneaks in with a hook. Chris Avila responds with a right. He follows up with a couple of jabs. Both men land lefts in the pocket. Pettis with a second left before the bell.

Round two and Anthony Pettis uses good footwork to keep his opponent at arm’s length. He lands a long left hook. Both men exchange big right hooks at close range. Jabs from both, Pettis fires off a nice 1-2. A good left from Avila seems to stun “Showtime.”

Round three begins and Anthony Pettis strikes with an overhand right. Chris Avila counters with a short left. Pettis lands a powerful right. Avila circles and lands a right of his own. Pettis strikes with an uppercut, but is answered with a grazing left. Avila throws a right. Showtime responds with a body shot. Avila picks up the pace here. Pettis ends the round with a nice right.

Round four begins and Anthony Pettis seems to be slowing down here. Maybe the extra 20 pounds was a mistake. Chris Avila with a good right. He lands another. Avila is pawing with his jab now. “Showtime” lands a late right but his body language doesn’t look good.

Round five begins and Chris Avila lands a nice overhand right to start. Pettis tries to return fire. He eventually succeeds and lands a right of his own. Avila is now working the body. The Team Diaz product seems to be the much fresher fighter. A good left from Avila ends the round.

The sixth and final round begins and both men have really let up here. Anthony Pettis tries to get rid of his right hand. Avila keeps pushing with his jab. “Showtime” with a right. Avila answers with one of his own. The fight comes to an end.
