Michigan State Spartans hunting for defensive tackle JJ Hanne

Michigan State Spartans hunting for defensive tackle JJ Hanne

Michigan State University’s staff under Jonathan Smith has been very successful in recruiting staff from the West Coast thanks to its existing connections to that part of the country.

One of the Spartans’ newest offers for the Class of 2025 goes to JJ Hanne, a defensive tackle from Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Catholic. But Hanne is no ordinary California recruit. He’s an international prospect who moved from Germany to be recruited in football.

He grew up playing basketball and soccer, and his athleticism is evident as he learns American football. Although he has only been playing for two years, his physical talents are evident.

“JJ is a kid with so much potential,” says Brandon Collier of PPI Recruits, an organization that helps recruit European teenagers. “He’s 6’5″, 280 pounds and he’s still young. He just turned 17, so he’ll get even better as his body matures. He’s a really hard worker and has the attitude you’re looking for. He can use his hands well and has great movement skills for a guy his size.”

Hanne had a great June. Georgia, Oregon, Minnesota, Florida, Texas, UCLA and Oregon State all made offers this month.

“He has an official visit to Georgia scheduled (for the fall), so that should show everyone what kind of talent he has, since the Bulldogs can have any DT they want,” Collier said. “I believe by the end of the year he’ll be a top-10 defensive tackle in this class.”

Despite all of these options and the latest offer from Michigan State, Collier said Hanne will “definitely consider” the Spartans.

Hanne is currently considered a three-star talent by 247Sports.

Upcoming recruitment announcements

Many new commitments will be announced in July and there will be some that involve Michigan State.

The best chance for the Spartans is probably Bryson Williams from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. MSU received his last official visit in late June, but he is also considering Kansas, Harvard and Rice. Teammates Charles White And Jayden Hearty have already chosen MSU.

On July 18, Newberry (Florida) Defensive Lineman Myka Newton will announce his acceptance.

The Spartans hosted him for an official game on the weekend of May 31. UCF and NC State also invited him to an official game in June. The 6’2″ and 255-pound Newton spoke very positively about his relationship with the defensive coach Legi Suiaunoa.

There are currently no 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions for Williams or Newton.
