Jhon Cordoba, James Rodríguez and Luis Díaz scored goals in a dominant first half to lead Colombia to a 5-0 victory over Panama in the Copa America quarter-finals on Saturday.

Colombia, who entered Saturday with a 26-match unbeaten streak, were not long in coming on the No. 27 when Cordoba’s well-placed header found the bottom corner of the net after a Rodríguez corner kick in the eighth minute.

Less than ten minutes later, Los Cafeteros took a 2-0 lead with a powerful penalty from Rodríguez.

Colombia were awarded the penalty after Panama goalkeeper Orlando Mosquera brought down Colombian Jhon Arias, who ran to prevent the ball from going out of play near the post.

Colombia made it 3-0 in the 41st minute when Díaz lobbed a ball over Mosquera, who had pushed forward during the counterattack, and the goal was set up by another beautiful pass from Rodríguez.

Liverpool’s Luis Diaz was one of the goalscorers in Colombia’s victory over Panama in Arizona.

Panama had several good chances in the first half, including a shot that rebounded off the post before Colombia goalkeeper Camilo Vargas cleared it, but Los Canaleros were unable to extend their lead.

Colombia scored their fourth goal in the 70th minute when Richard Ríos fired a long right-footed shot past Mosquera into the bottom left corner of the net. The final goal came in stoppage time when Miguel Borja converted a penalty.

Colombia will play in the semifinals in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday against the winner of Saturday’s Uruguay-Brazil duel.

The clear favorites, the Colombians, enjoyed a huge home advantage in front of 39,740 spectators at State Farm Stadium, with most fans wearing their team’s bright yellow jerseys.

The stadium’s sliding roof was closed because the outside temperature was around 46 degrees Celsius.

Panama’s unexpected advance to the quarterfinals included a 2-1 win over the United States during the group stage.
