Michigan State Basketball reportedly aims for the best new recruit

While we eagerly await Michigan State’s first basketball player of the class of 2025, Tom Izzo has his eyes set on something potentially much bigger. One of the highlights of the class of 2026.

I’m sure Izzo is still recruiting the most for the 2025 class right now, but that’s not stopping him from opening some doors in the next class as well. In fact, Michigan State is reportedly one of the schools that’s most in contention for the top recruit in the country.

According to High School Top Recruiting, the Spartans are one of the top 10 schools most interested in recruiting Brandon McCoy Jr.

McCoy is a five-star point guard from Bellflower, California. He is the nation’s top recruit for the class of 2026, according to 247Sports rankings.

And that’s no surprise after his last game.

In the U.S. national team’s game against New Zealand, McCoy scored 19 points. He also had three rebounds, six assists, and a whopping six steals. I don’t know about you, but he sounds like the perfect two-way player to me.

As you can imagine, many other elite programs are currently recruiting McCoy as well. Duke, Kentucky, UCLA, USC, Michigan, Kansas, Cal, Arizona and BYU are the other schools McCoy said are recruiting him the most.

The competition for McCoy is obviously pretty tough, but I’m not ruling Izzo out. He’s beaten the best programs in the country for top recruits before, so who’s to say he can’t do it again?

This recruitment still has over a year to go, so hopefully Izzo and his team can bring McCoy to campus to show him what Michigan State University basketball is all about.
