The Apothecary Diaries reveals visual and verbal drama from Tanabata

The Pharmacist Diaries Anime revealed a mini voice drama along with a Tanabata (star-watching festival). The anime is currently on hiatus as fans await the second season, which is set to air in 2025. While the Tanabata date varies by region, the festivities generally begin on July 7.

The visual and mini voice drama stars Jinshi and Maomao, voiced by Takeo Otsuka and Aoi Yuki respectively. The pair’s dynamic is a central point in the story.

OLM and Toho Animation Studio animated the first season of the TV anime, based on a light novel series by Natsu Hyuga and illustrated by Toko Shino. Norihiro Naganuma directed the anime and was also responsible for series composition. Yukiko Nakatani is responsible for the character designs.

It is worth noting that the series also has two manga adaptations, one by Nekokurage and one by Minoji Kurata. Crunchyroll describes the plot:

Maomao lived a peaceful life with her father, a pharmacist. Until one day she was sold to the imperial palace as a simple servant. But a submissive life under the kings was not her destiny. When imperial heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure! This catches the attention of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her. Now she is making a name for herself by solving medical mysteries!

Tanabata visual and language drama for The Pharmacist Diaries were also shown at the Crunchyroll Industry Panel during today’s Anime Expo, along with a trailer with English subtitles for the second season.
