Dwayne Johnson announces cast and release date of live-action film “Vaiana”

It is simply impossible to predict how far Disney’s Vaiana – The wonderful world of love The live-action film will be shown!

Dwayne Johnson, 52, re-shared the casting news for the upcoming film in an Instagram post on Friday, July 5, reminding everyone that he will reprise the role of demigod Maui, whom he voiced in the 2016 animated series “Moana” and in 2024’s “The Last: A Tribute to the Wild.” Vaiana 2 – The Great Adventure.

In the update, the actor revealed that “production begins this August” and said the live-action film will hit theaters on “June 27, 2025,” which appears to be a new release date since Disney originally scheduled it for July 10, 2026.

“Exciting and inspiring casting news as we begin to develop our live-action MOANA Family,” Johnson wrote in the post, which included portrait photos of the cast alongside animated versions of their characters.

Catherine Laga’aia will play the role of Moana in the 2025 live-action film.

The actor also reminded his followers that newcomer Catherine Laga’aia will play the titular Polynesian heroine in the new film.

John Tui, who had a role in Johnson’s NBC series Young Rock is based about the life and childhood of the former WWE star, will play Moana’s father, Chief Tui. Frankie Adams plays Moana’s mother Sina and Rena Owen her grandmother Gramma Tala.

“And your devoted demigod persona ~ MAUI🪝,” Johnson wrote in the caption.

“It is our great honor to share the legends, songs, dances and traditions of our Polynesian culture with all of you and your families around the world,” said the “Jumanji” star completed.

The film is directed by Thomas Kail and the music is composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda.
