Love Island USA: Is season 6 the best yet?

Love Island USA: Is season 6 the best yet?

If you are not watching Love Island USA on Peacock, you’re missing out on the hottest show of the summer. Until now, the US version has always been in the shadow of the original Love Island. Unfortunately, the British series has nothing to offer its fans this year. Fortunately, Love Island USA started strong and keeps getting better. If you follow Bravo or reality TV fan accounts on social media, you’ve surely heard talk about it.

I urge all the loyal Love Island UK fans who have given USA a chance before but weren’t keen to give it another go. If it continues like this, season 6 could be one of the UK’s best seasons ever. Even though it’s only halfway through, I’m pretty sure this is the best season of Love Island USA yet, and here are some reasons why.

Ariana is the perfect hostess

The USA has its answer to Love Island UK host Maya Jama! One of the reasons Love Island USA is getting more attention this year is because of former superfan and host Ariana Madix. The TV personality’s fanbase is bigger than ever thanks to her latest appearance.

Ariana is the perfect host, and not just because she pulls off a sassy slow-motion performance. She’s funny, charming, and quick-witted, which is needed with this cast. When reunions and eliminations get out of control, she manages to get through to the screaming islanders. As she promised before the season, Ariana is like a wonderfully supportive big sister to the girls. She also hilariously calls out the boys’ bad behavior, which is much needed.

There has been a lot of talk about the opportunities Ariana has been given since Scandoval. Watching this season of LI USA, it’s clear that she’s getting those opportunities because of her undeniable star status. I imagine Ariana will keep this job as long as she wants it, no matter what happens with Vanderpump Rules. Plus, she looks better than ever!

One of the reasons this season of LI USA is so top-notch is because the producers refuse to allow a single boring episode. At this point, Love Island is a well-oiled machine. From the bombshells to the reunions to Casa Amor, even the biggest twists have become predictable staples.

But if any Islander – or viewer – thought they could predict this season, they’re in for a surprise. Some of this season’s twists and turns seem almost experimental. What’s more, the contestants themselves are so chaotic that they create shocking twists just by talking.

The challenges lead to drama

Despite being an important aspect of the show, Love Island viewers have a love/hate relationship with challenges. When they’re bad, it just feels like a desperate attempt to bloat the episodes. However, there was a shocking lack of challenges on Love Island UK this year, and they’re sorely missed. But on LI USA Season 6, every challenge counts.

So far, every challenge has had an impact on the entire episode or season. For example, one dance challenge required contestants to reveal whether they wanted to stay with their current partner or move on to someone else. The results shocked viewers, caused some very emotional fallout, and led to the end of several established couples.

The challenges themselves are creative and very complicated and come with elaborate sets. Perhaps the producers were inspired by Love Island Games?

Ariana said it herself. One of the reasons this season is so good is the “perfect” cast of islanders. No one fades into the background in this group. The villa full of strong personalities means there have been many, MANY jaw-dropping meltdowns and fights.

Even though Liv Walker hasn’t found love yet, she’s constantly stirring up drama and challenging people. Leah Koteb has amassed an army of fans despite getting into trouble for her actions and words. Viewers have fallen in love with Kordell Beckham for reasons that have nothing to do with his superstar brother. And Rob Rausch’s poolside meltdown felt like the Love Island equivalent of Colton Underwood jumping the fence.

For me, the clear winner is JaNa Craig, who instantly spouts iconic quotes in every episode. She loves reading the dictionary, she makes gorgeous eggs three different ways, and she dreams of living in a house shaped like her initial. She’s hilarious, even when she’s crying about plants. JaNa is charming, confident, a real girl, and gorgeous. To echo what Ariana said on Aftersun, I have no idea why guys aren’t lining up to date her.

You really can’t predict what these young singles will do next. And that makes it very exciting. Even if it gives the audience a bit of whiplash!

Nobody plays it safe

I’m not sure if the Islanders know how popular this season is. Or maybe they’re just too chaotic to maintain a strategy. Because no one seems to care too much about staying popular. No potential setback will stop them from taking a big risk.

The girls showed in the first week of the season that they don’t play it safe. It’s refreshing to see them exploring other options, even if it’s just a kiss during a challenge. Meanwhile, the male contestants got angry when they heard it was time for Casa Amor. Especially the boys, who seemed the most withdrawn.

At this point, I’m not sure there are any strong couples. But there are still three weeks left for that. For now, I’m just enjoying the big risks and unpredictable twists. There’s no other show out there right now that can change so much from day to day! And that means there hasn’t been a boring episode yet, which is very impressive. That alone could make this the best season of Love Island USA yet.

Be sure to watch Love Island USA on Peacock.
