Shane van Gisbergen is looking forward to racing against Kyle Larson in the Cup Series after the epic battle in the Xfinity Series in Chicago

The NASCAR Xfinity Series gave us one of the best road races we have ever seen. Shane van Gisbergen was of course the winner, but he had to beat NASCAR’s best Kyle Larson to do it.

Shane van Gisbergen and Kyle Larson engaged in a heavyweight battle in the first stage of Loop 110 today. Crossovers, daring maneuvers and more. It was one of the best displays of racing skill and sportsmanship you will see at a NASCAR race.

In the end, SVG came out on top and took the trophy. Kyle Larson finished 3rd behind Ty Gibbs. The way van Gisbergen moved through traffic separated him from Larson towards the end of the race.

After the race, SVG was overjoyed. He had fun and came out on top, it couldn’t be better.

“This is unbelievable, what a great race. It was pretty wild at the end,” said Shane van Gisbergen. “I can’t thank the guys from Kaulig Racing enough, our WeatherTech Camaro was incredible. Great race at the beginning with Kyle, he was really good on the restarts and we got our car better for the second set of tires, but yay! It was fun to overtake all those guys at the end. I had a great race with everyone.”

He then talked about the fight with Larson. He hopes to repeat it on Sunday.

“It was cool! We were waving at each other, giving each other the thumbs up and doing really respectful but big maneuvers. He was incredibly good on braking and on the bumps. Really cool, I learned a lot and he probably learned a lot from me too, but yeah, I hope to race him again tomorrow and get the win.”

And as for his feelings for Chicago: He loves the city and this race.

“It’s incredible what NASCAR has done here. It’s a great show. So, pretty cool feelings. Hopefully we can repeat that tomorrow.”

Shane van Gisbergen wins in Chicago

Twice on the streets of Chicago and twice at the checkered flag. Shane van Gisbergen was once again outstanding in the Xfinity Series. This is the second NASCAR race on the streets of Chicago that SVG has won in a row.

Of course, the big race and 2023 title defense is on Sunday. Today he defeated Ty Gibbs and Kyle Larson to win his third Xfinity Series race of the season, his third consecutive road/street course win in the series.

One lucky fan in Chicago got a signed rugby ball after this race! What a race, what a finish and what a damn racer! If you didn’t watch The Loop 110 today, you missed a great race.

It was a beautiful day in the Windy City. Rain was not on anyone’s mind for today’s events. Practice, qualifying, racing – everything went smoothly. There was enough chaos to keep things interesting all day long.
