CJ Stroud won’t be the best quarterback until Patrick Mahomes rules the NFL, claims Chris Broussard, contradicting Tank Dell

“I’m sure CJ has the chance to be the best quarterback in the league.” Tank Dells Words, not ours. Nowadays it has become so impossible for athletes to understand the statements they make in front of the camera. Houston Texans‘ 24-year-old wide receiver says about his teammate: “Best QB in the league” CJ Stroud was perhaps a bit too much. That is nothing short of a bold statement. And now a famous sports analyst has taken it into his own hands to let Dell know that no one Patrick Mahomes.

While speaking on The Odd Couple podcast on July 5, Chris Broussard responded to Dell. He said: “CJ Stroud is great. I liked him. And Tank Dell is his teammate too, so of course you should say something like that. But I’m going to say this. I think the best quarterback in the league is off the table for the next 7-8 years. Like Patrick Mahomes.” The Fox Sports analyst was in no mood to take no prisoners. That’s understandable.

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ Star QB operates on a different level. He plays the position in a way that has never been seen in the history of American professional football. Chris reiterated this on the podcast when he said that Mahomes’ success rate sets him apart from the rest. “For me, Patrick Mahomes has won so many times that it’s not even up for debate in the next few years.”

He played just one game in his rookie season in 2017. But the following year he made a splash. The Chiefs’ No. 15 was a real feast for the eyes in 2018, his first year as a starter. He threw for 5,097 yards, with 50 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He delivered arguably one of the best individual seasons we’ve ever seen from a quarterback.

So, you would agree with Chris on this point. But if we look at Stroud’s numbers from his rookie season, they could make a good argument for Dell. The Texans player with jersey number 7 completed 63.9% of his passes in 15 games with 23 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. He is the NFL player with the most passing yards per game and the lowest interception rate, was voted Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowl, and finished eighth in the MVP voting.

Stroud’s numbers are great. But “the best QB in the league” Title is too far-fetched for now. However, the analyst has some advice for the 22-year-old.

What does CJ Stroud have to do to catch up to Patrick Mahomes?

Chris Broussard believes this is what the Texans’ rising QB needs to do to catch up to the Chiefs’ star. He said Patrick Mahomes will be in power for the foreseeable future unless “Houston, powered by CJ Stroud, is becoming what Kansas City has become. Starting immediately!”

Chris believes CJ needs to step up and go above and beyond to win MVP next year. He can’t. He needs to become the franchise’s stalwart. Why, you may ask? Because his teammate believes he can be the best. And to be the best, you have to beat the best.

Since being named MVP in his first regular season as a starter, Pat Mahomes has led the Chiefs to six consecutive AFC Championship games. They have won four and lost two, both losses coming in overtime. Mahomes has led the Chiefs to four Super Bowl appearances since 2018. He is one of five quarterbacks in NFL history to win three or more Super Bowls as a starter.

These stats don’t even begin to paint the full picture of the Mahomes dynasty and what he’s building. Do you think Mahomes Sr. calls him “Showtime” just for fun? Think again.

Kudos to Tank Dell for admitting that there is a difference between CJ and Pat. But he didn’t explain that the difference is that big! Regardless, Chris did him the honor.
