A Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired mansion in Michigan comes on the market for $12.9 million

A Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired mansion in Michigan comes on the market for .9 million

Frank Lloyd Wright’s philosophies and influence on the field of architecture and homebuilding continue to make waves more than 65 years after his death in 1949. A Bay Area home modeled on the architect’s iconic Fallingwater commission was listed for $25 million last fall, and at least two more homes by protégés of the GOAT designer have hit the market since then. Another home, this one in downtown Birmingham, Michigan, takes its cues from Wright’s Tirranna House in Connecticut and is now for sale with a $12.9 million price tag. Cindy Obron Kahn of The Agency is holding the listing.

Located in the heart of downtown, the sprawling 1.5-acre property at 834 Southfield Road is a nature lover’s paradise. Its 1,200 square feet of living space includes four bedrooms, six bathrooms and three powder rooms. Completed in 2000, the home uses a mix of contrasting natural materials like wood and stone to highlight its contemporary design. Interior features include wood-burning fireplaces and an indoor pool, but there is also open access to the property with lush gardens and a waterfall.

The focal point of the sunken formal living room is a stainless steel and wood fireplace.

A gold-colored front door opens into the home, whose open-plan layout includes many walls of windows that blur the visual boundaries between indoor and outdoor living, as well as an open stairwell that offers views of the indoor pool below. The formal living room is the heart of the home, with west-facing windows and a unique ceiling design. A nearby patio offers ample seating and views of the verdant landscape.

Elsewhere on the main level are the formal dining room and gourmet kitchen. The former is set beneath a pentagonal ceiling panel and adjacent to French doors that open onto a patio. In the kitchen, a stainless steel island with ample storage and a gas stove is the centerpiece of the room. A bank of skylights floods the airy space with natural light, while a study and conference room are other standout features.
