3 Detroit Lions mourn the loss of their former teammate Khyree Jackson

On Saturday morning, a terrible tragedy was reported in the NFL community. Khyree Jackson, a fourth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings, and two of his friends were killed in a three-car crash. Further details from the scene are still being released, but several reports suggest alcohol may have been involved.

Jackson, 24, was set to enter his rookie season after a strong college career. He played two seasons at Alabama before transferring to Oregon for his senior year. In his two seasons with the Crimson Tide, he overlapped with several young players on the Detroit Lions who were visibly devastated to hear the news Saturday morning.

Jackson, a cornerback, shared a room with current Lions Brian Branch and Terrion Arnold. Both Lions took to social media to share their feelings about the tragic day.

“The journey you’ve taken to get here and you’ve truly accomplished your goal of making it to the NFL. You really looked out for me,” Arnold wrote in a post on Twitter. “A true brother and all you wanted was to see me succeed and vice versa, always love Slim.”

“I haven’t shed a tear in a minute,” Branch wrote, “this hurt.”

Also directly affected by the news is Lions receiver Jameson Williams. Williams only spent one year at Alabama, but it’s clear he was close to Jackson as well.

“I’m hurt as hell,” Williams wrote in an Instagram video. “Can’t fake it. Don’t feel real my brother.”

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.
