Former Raptors star expected to sign with Western Conference club

DeMar DeRozan is apparently close to a deal with the Sacramento Kings.

The former Toronto Raptors star is reportedly planning a visit to Sacramento, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic, while the Kings are looking for a sign-and-trade partner to sign DeRozan in the offseason. Sacramento is reportedly in trade talks with the Chicago Bulls to sign DeRozan and is looking for a third team that could facilitate such a transfer.

According to Marc Stein, the San Antonio Spurs are believed to be involved in trade talks to complete the three-team deal. San Antonio reportedly traded Devonte’ Graham and a second-round pick to the Charlotte Hornets, which should give the Spurs additional salary cap space, reported Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. The deal should make it easier for San Antonio to enter trade talks between the Bulls and Kings with DeRozan moving to Sacramento.

DeRozan spent three seasons with the Bulls, who appear ready to go in a different direction this offseason. Chicago parted ways with Alex Caruso earlier this summer and now wants to part ways with DeRozan, Zach LaVine and possibly Nikola Vucevic.

A sign-and-trade is the only way for DeRozan to join a contender for next season, and that would require the 34-year-old to sign a three-year deal with the Kings. He had previously been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers and Miami Heat, but both organizations had limited options to sign the former All-Star forward.

DeRozan averaged 24 points, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game in 79 games for the Bulls last season, shooting 48% from the field.
