Taylor Swift’s “imgonnagetyouback” celebrates live debut in Amsterdam

Taylor Swift fans know they’re in for a treat when the Eras Tour mastermind says from the stage, “I’m going to play a song I’ve never played live before.” Those were the words from Swift’s red lips on Friday night (July 5) in Amsterdam, where she performed “imgonnagetyouback” live during her acoustic set at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

“I’ll get you back”, the sexy anthology Song about attracting an old flame (found on the 31-song edition of The “Tortured Poets” section) begins with a description of the scenery by Swift: “Lilac short skirt that fits me like skin.” She soon makes it clear: “I’ll tell you one thing, darling/ I can tell if someone still wants me, they’ll confess it.”

“Whether I’m going to be your wife or/ break your bike, I haven’t decided yet/ But I’m going to get you back,” goes the chorus of “imgonnagetyouback.” “Whether I’m going to call you names or/ take you home with me, I haven’t decided yet/ But I’m going to get you back.”

“I hear the whispers in your eyes/ I’ll make you think/ You’ll find that you were never not mine/ You’re mine,” Swift sang on stage in Amsterdam with an acoustic guitar in her hand.

In the surprise segment of Swift’s Friday night show, when the hitmaker performed “Imgonnagetyouback” live for the first time, she made the song even more spicy by pairing it with Call slow jam “Dress”.

“Say my name and everything just stops/ I don’t want you like a best friend/ Only bought this dress so you could take it off/ Take it off, ah, ah, ah,” she sang in the flirty mashup, finding her way from “Dress” back to the bridge “imgonnagetyouback”: “I feel it coming, it hums in the way you move/ Hit the reset button, we’ll become something new/ Say you got somebody, and I’ll say I got somebody too/ Even though I’m handcuffed, I’m leaving here with you.”

After the guitar performance, Swift played a love story on the piano.

She sang the tender “You Are in Love”, a deluxe track from the 1989 Era, interwoven with the dreamy “Cowboy Like Me”, from Always.

“You can hear it in the silence/ You can feel it on the way home/ You can see it with the lights out/ You’re in love, true love,” Swift mused on “You are in Love” before singing about falling in love with “a cowboy like me.”

“Now you hang on my every word like the gardens of Babylon/ With your boots under my bed is forever the sweetest deception,” she mused. “You had a few tricks up your sleeve/ It takes a master to spot one.”

She linked the two moments by singing, “But you can hear it in the silence/ You can feel it on the way home/ You can see it in the lights out/ You’re a cowboy like me and you were in love.”

The pop icon whose The “Tortured Poets” section Album remains stable at number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, has now performed most of the songs from her latest collection live on tour. Which songs from the set have not yet been played on stage? “So Long, London”, “Florida!!!” feat. Florence + The Machine, “Cassandra” and “Robin”.
