Patti Smith boldly references Taylor Swift’s song after her name was mentioned on the pop star’s latest album

Patti Smith gave a subtle nod to Taylor Swift during their last live performance.

The 77-year-old musician and poet recently performed a show in Dublin, Ireland, where she mentioned Swift’s latest album. The “Tortured Poets” sectionin whose lyrics Smith is mentioned by name.

In the title song of TTPDSwift, 34, sings: “You are not Dylan ThomasI’m not Patti Smith / This ain’t the Chelsea Hotel / We’re modern-day idiots.”

In fan-shot footage of Smith’s recent performance, she told the audience: “I’m no Dylan Thomas, but I Am Patti Smith,” which elicited a loud cheer from the crowd.

“And this is not the Chelsea Hotel,” the user on X who shared the video captioned the post.

“ICONIC LMAO,” one fan wrote after seeing Smith’s clip, while someone else called her a “queen” due to the Swift reference.

“Legend!!!!!” another fan raved about X.

Smith has already spoken about Swift’s name dropping in TTPD shortly after the album came out in April.

On Instagram, Smith shared a photo of herself reading a work by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and wrote: “I would like to say that I am moved to be mentioned in the same breath as the great Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.”

“Thanks, Taylor,” she added.

Swift’s latest album features some notable names, including Charlie Puth, Stevie Nicks and even Swift himself.

The 14-time Grammy winner, who mentions 76-year-old Nicks by name in the song “Clara Bow,” performed the song live with the Fleetwood Mac singer in the audience at one of the Eras tour concerts in Dublin last week.
