Vikings release statement on death of Khyree Jackson

The Minnesota Vikings have released a statement after rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson died overnight in a car accident. Jackson was 24 years old.

“We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson’s death following a car accident overnight. Our thoughts are with Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches, and all the victims of this tragic accident,” the Vikings wrote on Twitter.

Khyree Jackson played football at Alabama in 2021 and 2022 before moving to Oregon before the 2023 season. He was selected to the All-Pac 12 first team last season and was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft with the No. 108 pick.

Besides Jackson Anthony “AJ” Lytton And Isaiah Hazel also died in the car accident. Lytton and Hazel attended Dr. Henry Wise High School in Maryland with Jackson.

AJ Lytton began his career at State of Florida and then transferred to Penn State. Isaiah Hazel played four years at Maryland before switching to Charlotte for his final season in college.

Maryland State Police have released details of the fatal car crash that Khyree Jackson, Anthony Lytton Jr. And Isaiah Hazel.

According to the report, Forestville Barrack police officers responded to a three-vehicle crash in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in the early morning hours of July 6. The crash occurred on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue northbound and Presidential Parkway north of Dower House Road. The three vehicles involved were a silver Infinity Q50, a silver Chevrolet Impala and a maroon Dodge Charger.

In particular, investigators believe that alcohol may have been one of the factors in the accident. At the time of this report, it is still unclear which of the people involved may have been driving under the influence of alcohol.

In addition to the Vikings, head coach Kevin O’Connell also released a statement about Jackson’s death.

“I am absolutely devastated by this news. Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately attracted his teammates. In our short time together, it was obvious that Khyree would develop into a great professional football player, but even more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words. My condolences go out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”

Vikings General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah also released a statement on the death of Khyree Jackson:

“I am heartbroken by the loss of Khyree. When we got to know him leading up to the draft, it was clear what goals Khyree wanted to achieve both professionally and personally. His story was one of resilience. He took steps to become the best version of himself, not only for himself, but for those who cared about him and looked up to him. Khyree’s personality captured every room he was in. I am devastated that his life and everything he had ahead of him was cut so short. My thoughts are with Khyree’s family and friends, those who played with and coached him in college, and his teammates and coaches here at the Vikings.”
