Chris Jericho claims Mexican fans don’t care about ratings or stars

Chris Jericho is proud of his work with AEW and is open about it. He is known for his love of worldwide competition and made a surprise appearance at CMLL Viernes Espectacular last week. Jericho has now explained that Mexican fans don’t care about TV ratings or star ratings.

Chris Jericho made a surprise appearance at the CMLL event on June 28, where he attacked Mistico and challenged him to a match. This was Jericho’s first appearance at Arena Mexico since 1995, which added to the excitement of the event.

AEW Dynamite’s ratings on June 19 were concerning, with only 502,000 viewers and a 0.16 key demo rating. This was a significant drop from the previous week’s 681,000 viewers and a 0.23 demo rating on June 12, and this worried fans a lot. In fact, AEW’s ratings are a major topic of discussion every week.

While speaking on Talk Is Jericho, Chris Jericho reflected on the crowd reaction at Arena Mexico when he performed there for the first time in nearly two decades. He appreciated the enthusiastic atmosphere, noting that on a normal Friday night, there were around 12,000 fans in attendance. The fans were just there to enjoy the show, cheering for the good guys and booing the bad guys without worrying about ticket sales, ratings or star ratings, and that genuine joy was refreshing to him.

“The thing I liked most was that I was there on a normal Friday night. There were about 12,000 people there, which is amazing. The fans are just happy, they’re just excited. They’re cheering for the good guys and booing the bad guys, and they’re not chanting ‘You messed up,’ and they’re not worrying about how many tickets were sold or what the ratings were, and giving stars or whatever. They were just enjoying the show. It was a real refresher for me and I’m really glad I was there. It’s kind of the Chris Jericho cliche again. There are people chanting ‘Please stop,’ which is great (laughs), and here I have Mexico and that’s the number one country in wrestling.”

“It was on the cover of all the magazines and I think there were probably 15 articles on all the different wrestling and sports sites about Jericho coming back. So it’s a big deal, it would have been a great time to go there and it’s given me even more momentum and excitement to come back. It’s just good to know that I can always draw on this worldwide history that I have and now is the perfect time to do it. So muchas gracias, Arena Mexico, and we’ll see you all there very soon.”

Will Ospreay also spoke about AEW Dynamite’s shocking ratings last month. Still, the debate surrounding AEW ratings isn’t going to end anytime soon, and fans have accepted that fact.
