Ringo Starr’s “Peace & Love” birthday party gets an event at Lambeau

GREEN BAY – Getting the statues of Vince Lombardi and Curly Lambeau in front of Lambeau Field to play along will be no easy task, but all the Beatles fans at their feet will be flashing beaming smiles and peace signs.

In honor of Ringo Starr’s 84th birthday on Sunday, fans will gather at the statues at 11:15 a.m. the same day to record his signature cry of “Peace & Love” as part of a global movement.

Since 2008, every year on July 7, the Beatles drummer has invited people around the world to think, say or post “Peace & Love” at 12 noon local time to make his birthday wish of a wave of peace and love enveloping the planet come true. The annual campaign now includes official group greetings organized by “Peace & Love Ambassadors” in 28 countries.

Green Bay is one of 34 cities worldwide participating in the celebration this year, along with Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, London, Tokyo, Sydney, Mexico City and others, according to Starr’s website. A Facebook post written by Peace & Love ambassador Dee Lynn for the local event calls it “a first in Wisconsin.”

Fans of the Beatles and Starr are invited to gather in front of the statues at Lambeau Field and record a short 2- to 3-minute video that will then be uploaded to Starr’s website. People are encouraged to wear their favorite Beatles/Starr clothing or something that represents Wisconsin and they can also bring signs, according to the Facebook post.

“Let’s show Ringo that Wisconsin shares its message of peace and love with him and the world,” the post says.

The Lambeau gathering was broadcast this week on SiriusXM’s Beatles Channel and its call-in talk show “Fab Fourum.” The channel aired a special program for “Ringo Starr Peace & Love Birthday Week.”

Starr will celebrate his annual Peace & Love birthday in Los Angeles on Sunday with his wife, Barbara Starkey, and a guest list that includes Joe Walsh, Fred Armisen, Ben Harper, Stephen Stills, Ed Begley Jr., Don Was and Roy Orbison Jr. They will all shout “Peace and Love” at 12:00 p.m. PST.
