Emma Roberts claims she lost her job because of her famous family

Emma Roberts has spoken openly about how having family members working in the film and television industry has impacted her career.

The 33-year-old got her first film role at the age of nine in Ted Demme’s 2001 hit, and has since starred in numerous romantic comedies, thrillers and horror films.

Although much of her family is involved in the industry, Roberts’ name has not come up often in the ongoing discussion about “nepobabies,” and she has since spoken out about the possible reasons.

Roberts’ father is actor Eric Roberts, who has appeared in acclaimed series such as Grey’s Anatomy And Suits, alongside films like Lumina And Crimes of the past.

After the separation of her father and mother Kelly Cunningham, Eric married fellow actress Eliza Roberts – now also a casting director and acting teacher – whose parents are the late screenwriters David Rayfiel and Lila Garrett.

Robert’s mother married musician Kelly Nickels and her aunts are actresses Julia Roberts and Lisa Roberts Gillan.

Roberts claims that she has actually “lost more jobs than she has gained through her time in the industry.”

She told Flaunt: “People have opinions and sometimes they may not be good opinions about people in the family.

“I never got a job because of it, but I know I definitely lost a few jobs because of it.”

And Roberts said she was turned down for roles when she was in the Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi Podcast to promote her new film, Space Cadet.

Roberts argued that she believes people don’t always consider the bigger picture when it comes to Nepo babies and their successful careers.

She explained: “That’s the thing I always talk about – people kind of only see your successes because they only see you when you’re on the poster of a movie. They don’t see all the rejections along the way,

“That’s why I’m always very open about things I auditioned for and didn’t get the role for.

“I think it’s important to talk about it – otherwise people just think that everything was so great and straightforward and easy, but no, it’s not that at all. But of course it looks that way from the outside or to the naked eye.”
