This is something for retro horror fans

Sometimes it’s nice to take a trip down memory lane and relive the classic survival horror video games of yesteryear, even if our rose-tinted glasses sometimes deceive us.

For many, the golden era of survival horror was the time of the first PlayStation, which spoiled us with games like the original Resident Evil trilogy, silent Hill, Dino Crisis and much more. Don’t get me wrong, subsequent generations also produced some absolute classics, but there was something very special about survival horror games of the 90s.

Check out the trailer for Crow Country below!

Over the past few years, the indie gaming scene has done an incredible job of keeping the survival horror genre alive, especially during a time when it seemed like AAA publishers had lost interest in scaring gamers. Today, it’s probably fair to say that the survival horror genre is hotter right now than it has been in years, whether it’s a AAA blockbuster or an indie darling.

One of my favorite indie survival horror games I’ve played recently is Tormented soulsdeveloped by Dual Effect and Abstract Digital. Another game I played, albeit only as a demo, is Signal developed by Rose Engine. If you haven’t played any of these games, I highly recommend you give it a try.

However, another survival horror game was recently released, called Land of the Crows developed and published by SFB Games. Crow Country is inspired by games from the original PlayStation generation and is surely one for fans of the original resident Evil And silent Hill.

“Two years have passed since the mysterious disappearance of Edward Crow and the sudden closure of his theme park, Crow Country. But your arrival has broken the silence, Mara Forest,” the game’s description reads. “If you want answers, you must delve deep into the darkness of Crow Country to find them…”

I only played the demo for Land of the Crows so far, but it won me over immediately, so it’s a game I’ll be buying at some point, and if you want to check out this spooky indie horror, you can also play the free demo. The demo is available for PC (via Steam) and PS5 (via PlayStation Store), but unfortunately, as far as I know, there’s no demo on the Xbox Marketplace yet.

Land of the Crows is now available for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
