Three universities from Michigan are among the top 500 in the world according to US News rankings

Three Michigan universities are considered the best in the world, according to U.S. News and World Report’s 2024-2025 Best Global Universities rankings.

The publication evaluated 2,271 institutions worldwide, weighting the reputation of their research at home and abroad, the number of research and publication citations, the level of international collaboration, and much more. You can read the full methodology here.

The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor is ranked 19th in the world and in the top 25 internationally in numerous categories, including humanities, biology and biochemistry, cardiac and circulatory services, clinical medicine, economics and business administration, education, endocrinology, mathematics, molecular biology, oncology, physics, psychiatry, public health, radiology, social sciences, space science, and surgery.

Its ranking was strengthened by a top 5 ranking in the regional research reputation.

Michigan State University ranked 123rd. Its education and educational research program ranked 5th internationally, while plant and animal sciences were also in the top 20.

As a research institution, East Lansing University ranks among the top 50 in the United States and 63rd internationally.

Wayne State University in Detroit was the other Michigan university in the top 500, ranking 466th in the world. The three universities form the University Research Corridor, which together generated $24 billion in economic impact through research and innovation last year.
