Matamoros Little League wins Mexico Regional Championship and advances to the 2024 Little League Baseball® World Series presented by T-Mobile

Matamoros Little League (Tamaulipas, Mexico) will return to Williamsport to represent Mexico in the 2024 Little League Baseball^® World Series (LLBWS) presented by T-Mobile after winning the state championship 5-4. The Matamoros Little League finished the regional tournament with a score of 6-1, losing only in the final group game to the Cotaxtla Little League.

The Matamoros Little League will make its final trip to Williamsport in 2022, finishing with a 2-2 record, returning to youth sports’ biggest stage for the seventh time in league history and becoming the 36th.^th appearance since 1957, the second most among international teams behind Canada. The Matamoros Little League had its best finish at the 2008 LLBWS, winning five straight games and finishing second in the championship game.

Overall, the country has a 76-59 record in the LLBWS, with four second-place finishes, three third-place finishes, and three championships (1957, 1958, 1997). Mexico’s illustrious history in the LLBWS dates back to the country’s first World Series in 1957, when the Industrial Little League (Monterrey) became the first international team to win the LLBWS, with Angel Macias throwing the only perfect game ever in a championship game.

The first round pairings for the 2024 LLBWS were announced on June 12, just one week after the anniversary of the very first Little League game and in the heart of the 65th anniversary of the Little League’s founding.^th National Little League^® During the week’s festivities, it was announced that Mexico will open the tournament on Wednesday, August 14, at 1 p.m. at Volunteer Stadium in the first game of the World Series against the Caribbean region.
