Blast Worship: Beaten to Death

Blast Worship: Beaten to Death

Where are you from?
Oslo, Norway. Instead of talking about sports like I usually do in this section, I’d like to take a moment to share this band’s Bandcamp bio: “Beaten To Death was formed in 2010 by blah, blah, blah, has released five albums and blah, blah, blah great reviews playing blah, blah, blah melodic grindcore. Huh?!? Blah, blah, blah, biographies are boring. Who cares? You just want to hear the music, right?”

Why the hype?
Well, if this biography has not explained to you exactly what you really need to know about Beaten to death is that everything they do is fucking DISRESPECTFUL. “Melodic grindcore” is one way to describe it, but the melodicism is delivered in an almost mocking manner along with several subversive elements such as the bizarre song structures, clean guitar tone, and satirical song titles that truly make the music as a whole one of the most idiosyncratic experiences one can have both inside and outside of the grindcore world in general.

Latest release?
Sunrise over rigor mortisself-released. There’s a melodic passage during “Dying The Dream” that features clean vocals, which is normally a big no-no for me, but it’s just so damn catchy and comes between two separate passages of brutal vocals that it’s not only OK, it’s one of my favorite parts of the entire record. That’s how good this shit is; I actually praise the clean vocals. Blah, blah, blah.
