Ivanka Trump talks about her love of surfing in her first podcast interview and reveals what is most difficult

Surfing has become one of Ivanka Trump’s hobbies. The former First Daughter talked about her love of surfing in her first-ever podcast interview with Lex Fridman.

“I feel like when we’re busy and running around, we quickly feel like we’re so in our minds and feel so important, even in the context of our own lives. And then you find yourself in a situation like that, and I think you feel so much more connected when you know how tiny you are in the broader sense. And that’s how I feel when I’m on a surfboard on the ocean,” Ivanka shared in the interview, which was published on July 2. “It’s really humbling to be so small in the middle of this huge ocean.”

She added: “It’s a really nice feeling, you know, with no noise, no chatter, no distractions, just being in the moment.”

The mother of three pointed out that you can’t fight the ocean. “You just have to be kind of in the middle of it,” she said. “And I think one of the things I love about surfing is that, like a lot of water sports, you’re manipulating the environment, you know? And that can be a little bit violent. Look at windsurfing, for example. Whereas with surfing, you’re in tune with the ocean. You’re not fighting it, you’re flowing with it. And you still have the ability to choose what waves you want to surf, and you sit there and read the ocean and learn to understand it, but you can’t control it.”

Ivanka admitted that paddling out is the hardest part of surfing for her. She explained: “Obviously, when you’re really pushing hard and you catch a wave, sometimes you’ll tip over and that doesn’t feel good. But when you’re in the line of impact and you’ve maybe surfed a good wave and now you go out for another wave and you’re stuck in that line of impact, there’s nothing you can do. You just sit there and try to get under it and the wave will keep hitting you.”

“So, I was stuck there with four, five, six waves just crashing into your head,” Ivanka continued. “And the worst thing you can do is react and be afraid and try to fight it. You just have to go with the flow until there’s inevitably a break and then paddle like crazy back to shore or the beach, whichever you feel like doing at the time.”

Despite the paddling, the Working women The author has grown fond of the sport. “I only learned it a few years ago, so I’m not good. I just love it,” she said. “I love everything about it. I love the physicality. I love being in the ocean. I love everything about it.”
