The bloc, which held an extraordinary session in Cairo yesterday (July 4), declared that Israel is not adhering to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and is committing genocide in Gaza.

“Today, the Council of the Arab League, at the level of permanent representatives, clearly decided to initiate procedures to freeze Israel’s participation in the United Nations General Assembly as a colonial power, a power that primarily threatens international peace and security and does not abide by the Charter of the United Nations or the conditions of its membership in the United Nations,” he said.

“We would like to remind you that this step, a step like this, ended, overthrew and eliminated the colonial regime in South Africa.”

On 16 December 1974, the General Assembly recommended that South Africa be excluded from participation in international organisations, which was a severe blow to the apartheid regime.

In the same year, the United Nations General Assembly, chaired by the Algerian Foreign Minister, refused to accept the credentials of the South African delegation.

The number of Palestinian deaths in the almost nine months of war is over 38,000, the victims being mainly women and children.
