19-year-old suspect arrested in connection with shooting of teenager in Lubbock

A 19-year-old was arrested Friday night in connection with a shooting that left a 16-year-old dead in north Lubbock on July 1. Christopher Acevedo II was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center after being arrested just before 7 p.m. Friday on manslaughter charges in connection with the shooting of 16-year-old Rudy Romo Ramirez, a statement from Lubbock police said. Officers responded to the 2500 block of Cornell Street around 12:44 a.m. on July 1 after shots were fired. Upon arrival, officers found Romo-Ramirez suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. During the course of the initial investigation, it appears Romo-Ramirez was with a large group of people when the shots were fired. The people in the group who were present at the time of the shooting fled the scene before officers arrived. After several days of investigation by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center, investigators were able to gather enough evidence to obtain an arrest warrant for Acevedo. He was taken into custody without incident at about 6:58 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Main Street. He was taken to the Lubbock County Detention Center, where he is being held on $300,000 bail. It was not immediately clear how officers connected Romo-Ramirez to the shooting or what sparked the violence, as the investigation is ongoing.
