Song premiere: En Masse – “(masq)”

In January last year, Connecticut-based En Masse released their excellent eight-track debut Troubled youtha whirlwind of wild screams, technical precision and abrupt dynamic transitions. There are many moving parts that Troubled youth so captivating, and that’s largely down to vocalist Zack Santiago, who possesses the same uncontrolled, unpredictable magnetism that made letlive.’s Jason Aalon Butler such a beloved frontman. It’s hard not to feel the passion of the whole band on a track like “Mixtape Nostalgia,” which strikes a beautiful balance between pulverizing, claustrophobic heaviness and breezy, effortless catchiness.

The band is back today with a new standalone single and we are pleased to present the video for it. It is called “(masq)” and is another bold step forward for the band, incorporating moodier, more textured sounds – think of the jump from Everything you always wanted to know about silence And Worship and Honor. About “(masq)” the band says: “There are many people who pride themselves on their ignorance while insisting that this ignorance is true, with little to no idea what they are talking about. Instead of engaging in petty squabbles and pointless debates, we should focus on reclaiming our power, which is being actively eroded by oppressive forces around the world.”

It’s another hit from En Masse, who are quickly becoming one of the most exciting groups in post-hardcore. Fans of bands like Foreign Hands or If I Die First will enjoy “(masq).” Check out the single and video below, and keep your eyes peeled – En Masse have hinted that there’s more to come.
