Family of Hartwell murder victim offers reward on anniversary of his death

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – The family of Alan Holcomb is offering a reward for solving his murder a year after he was killed.

Holcomb’s family is offering $2,500 for information leading to the person who killed him as he and his mother returned from watching fireworks on the Fourth of July.

According to police, Holcomb was shot and killed around 8 p.m. on July 5, 2023. A year later, no suspects have been found in his case, putting a strain on his family, including his aunt Kisha Ivory.

“Will they ever find out who did it?” Ivory said. “Sometimes I get angry. I want to go out and try to find the perpetrator myself because I feel like it’s not happening fast enough.”

Holcomb’s cousin Leah McKinney said it was distressing that there was no closure.

“There is no solution,” McKinney said. “There is no answer. It feels like that day last year.”

Holcomb’s mother dropped him off at her apartment after watching the fireworks at Ault Park. She got some food and returned home. She noticed he wasn’t on the ground floor and assumed he had gone to the basement to sleep.

The next morning, Holcomb’s mother went outside, noticed the police tape and saw that he was not in his room.

“The only thing she has left of him are objects, things… material things,” McKinney said. “Losing your only child? I can’t imagine that.”

McKinney said she feels like someone knows what happened to her cousin and she hopes someone comes forward so her family can find peace.

“I’m sure someone knows something,” McKinney said. “I’m just asking that they come forward.”

The $2,500 reward from the family is in addition to the $2,500 reward also being offered by CrimeStoppers for information in Holcomb’s case. Anyone with information should call 513-352-3040.
