“The Evergreen Collection: Extraordinary Stories from Across Washington State” is a collection of stories that appeared in Washington State Magazine, the official magazine of Washington State University.

Collected and edited by magazine editors Larry Clark and Adriana Janovich, the stories are organized by geography and highlight the state’s people, places and products that make it uniquely Washington State.

We live in an extraordinary place. I have always been impressed by the sheer diversity of Washington. As many corners as I have explored, there are still many more to discover! It is impressive to realize that the majesty of the Olympic Peninsula, the bustle of Puget Sound, the imposing Cascades, and the sweeping valleys and basins of Eastern Washington all lie within the same geographic boundary. We are truly blessed with an extraordinarily diverse state that we should be proud to call home.

Different stories in this collection will appeal to different people. Personally, I really enjoyed the articles on the development of the Rainier cherry and WA 38, also known as the Cosmic Crisp apple.

Graduates of Washington State University will of course be interested in stories about the development of Cougar Gold and the infamous State Route 26 that brought thousands of cougars from across the state to Pullman. Yakima residents can learn about Hanford and Chief Kamiakin. And finally, Westsiders will find many interesting stories from Puget Sound and the surrounding area.

There’s something for everyone in The Evergreen Collection. It’s a wonderful collection of journalism celebrating our great state and a worthy addition to your own collection.
